Siquijor - Surprisingly Enchanting Island

Siquijor is one of the small island provinces in the Philippines, located at the Central Visayas region. It is not uncommon to hear a tale or two of witchcrafts and sorcery in this island province, hence it is also known as The Mystical Island of the Philiippines. This could be the reason why local tourism was not much visible during our stay last June 2015, as we have seen more foreigners than local tourists. Good side, though, is the obvious well preserved state of its nature. An enchanting island full of surprises, a far cry from its reputation. It is one of the best Philippine destinations to enjoy even you're on a tight budget. The total expenses we had during our 3D2N Dumaguete City & Siquijor trip was around PHP7000 (based on two persons). The budget breakdown can be seen here.

Although there is an airport in the island province, there is no direct flight from Manila to Siquijor. It can be accessed via ferry from Dumaguete Port. As seen from my previous post, Siquijor - Budget Travel Guide & Itinerary, the island can be toured via a rented motorbike.

Paliton Beach

San Juan, Siquijor

Apart from its pristine white sand, Paliton Beach is also a marine sanctuary under the management of Siquijor tourism. For a minimum fee, tourists are allowed to snorkel or scuba dive, swimming has also a corresponding fee.

Capilay's Spring Park

San Juan, Siquijor

It came us a surprise to see that the spring park does not only have the running water that flows into its pool, but it also has fishes. What was more surprising is that it is also a place for locals to enjoy and swim in the pool. No entrance fee, just a natural spring pool.

Scenic Road Tripping

What sets Siquijor apart from others, being one of the best budget destinations in the Philippines, is its very cheap option in touring the whole island. A decent scooter motorbike rental for 24 hours can cost for as low as PHP250. What was more interesting in this province is the national road surrounding the whole province, a 70+km of circumferential road passing through all six municipalities of Siquijor, making it easier to access almost all the tourist spots. The views during the roadtrip were also rewarding.

San Isidro Labrador Church

Lazi, Siquijor

Be awed with this church built with coral stones and wood which has stood a great amount of time since 1857.
